SWS Detention Group is a full service distributor of correctional and detention products, as well as a contractor specializing in the supply and installation of detention equipment. Formed in 1999 by Paul Smith, Kelvin Syrnick and Lisa McMullin, SWS Detention Group is a supplier of security and detention equipment and services to Federal, Provincial, and Municipal correctional facilities and police services across Canada.

Paul Smith - Paul has worked in the detention industry since 1997, first as an employee for Weizel and Associates Ltd, and then as a founding partner with SWS Detention Group. He has spent time traveling and touring various detention facilities across Canada, both federal and provincial, and has gained exceptional experience on the unique needs of a correctional facility, from security to comfort to organization. His expertise in matters concerning correctional furniture and dinnerware, personal care items, evidence collection, suicide prevention, drug testing and restraint equipment, is requested on a daily basis from facilities across the country. Projects he has been involved in include Headingley Correctional Centre, North Fraser Pre-Trial Center and the South-West Correctional Facility in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.

Kelvin Syrnick - Since 1990, Kelvin has worked exclusively in the design, construction and maintenance of detention and correctional facilities. For the first 9 years of his career, he worked with Winnipeg based company Weizel and Associates Ltd, but left to be a partner in SWS Detention Group in 1999, where he has spent the last four years as the Vice President in charge of Construction. His education includes a diploma in Structural Engineering Technology in 1991 from Red River College in Winnipeg, MB, as well as certificates in Detention Equipment Technology (Southern Steel, 1997) and Detention Equipment Maintenance (Folger Adam Company, 1994).

Lisa McMullin - Since 1982, Lisa has worked in the security industry, and specifically on the detention side of the industry since 1989. She spent the first five years of her career with C.C. Craig Company Ltd, and the following 9 years with Weizel and Associates. She left in 1999 to become a partner of SWS Detention Group, and has worked as the office manager for SWS Detention Group, managing all accounting functions and inventory control. She has worked closely with the Project Manager on many detention projects across Canada, and has an Administrative Assistant Diploma from Success Compu College In Winnipeg, MB.

Collectively, the staff at SWS Detention Group have over 40 years of experience in this highly specialized industry. Although we primarily sell to the Canadian marketplace, SWS is independently owned and operated out of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, a location that makes it easy for us to service and/or ship products and equipment to any location in North America.

With our extensive experience and excellent reputation, SWS Detention Group is able to work with architects and owners to find effective and logical solutions to the problems faced by the prison industry, whether it be the design of a new facility or upgrades to an existing one, recommendations on security issues and integrated control systems or servicing the more basic personal inmate care requirements.
